Reflecting on the Training Youth Leaders Together Conference 2024: Empowering the Next Generation
On October 5th, 2024, youth leaders from across the region gathered at Mowbray Presbyterian Church for the highly anticipated Training Youth Leaders Together Conference, hosted by Scripture Union Western Cape (SUWC) in partnership with The Message Trust South Africa. This event proved to be an impactful day of learning and growing for those involved in youth ministry.
The conference focused on equipping leaders with the knowledge and skills to effectively engage with Gen Z—today’s 12 to 25-year-olds.
The day featured three powerful main sessions that addressed critical issues facing young people today:
- Digital Discipleship: Leaders were introduced to new strategies for reaching Gen Z in the age of social media, empowering them to effectively share the Gospel online.
- Mental Health and Faith: The session on mental health explored how youth leaders can support the mental well-being of young people, providing faith-based solutions for common challenges.
- Empowering a Generation: This inspiring session highlighted ways to mobilize Gen Z for service, justice, and Gospel impact, encouraging leaders to empower young people to make a difference in their communities.
In addition to these sessions, attendees enjoyed a lunchtime expo where they connected with various youth ministry organisations, including J-Life, Rocklands Centre, Youth Alpha, and Uzwelo Youth Development. This networking opportunity allowed leaders to explore new resources and strengthen relationships within the youth ministry community.
We are so proud and excited to be involved in partnering with key organisations across the Western Cape and beyond to make an impact across Youth groups, young people and churches. The event was well worth the investment, and feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive.
