A Historic Gathering for Prison Ministry in South Africa

On Saturday, 13 September 2025, Hillsong Africa Foundation hosted its first-ever Prison Ministry Seminar at Hillsong Church in Century City, Cape Town. This landmark event brought together organisations, thought leaders, and change-makers working in the field of prison reintegration to explore how we can collectively make a lasting impact in South Africa and beyond.

The seminar was a powerful time of vision, passion, and purpose. Attendees were inspired by keynote speakers Dr. Eben Mourries, Dr. Andrew May, and Dr. Leigh Schrieff-Brown, whose insights challenged and encouraged us to see the humanity and potential in every individual behind bars and those returning to society.

A highlight of the day was the panel discussion, coordinated by The Message Trust South Africa and facilitated by Natasha Khumalo from CCFM. The panel, organised by Ingrid Kalie-Moses, created space for honest dialogue, shared experiences, and practical strategies for collaboration in the spaces of prison & reintegration.

This powerful message that echoed throughout the seminar, reminding us of the heart behind prison ministry: restoration, dignity, and hope, was that “Every individual deserves an opportunity to heal, reclaim their identity, and envision a brighter, more prosperous tomorrow.”

The event was made possible by an incredible team of volunteers, contributors, and exhibiting organisations, each playing a vital role in turning a dream into reality. The overwhelming positive feedback confirmed that the seminar was not only inspirational and fascinating, but also impactful—sparking interest in future collaboration and the desire to gather annually.
