Some of the most powerful women in the Bible are women whose names we will never know.
Their stories are woven into Scripture, not because they held positions of influence or achieved worldly success, but because they encountered God and responded with courage, faith, and obedience. Though unnamed, these women continue to be remembered thousands of years later. Their lives remind us that significance is not found in recognition, but in being known by God. This powerful truth shaped our first Bloom event of 2026, held on Saturday, 17 May, at Jubilee Community Church in Observatory.
We had the privilege of welcoming 74 young leaders from across Cape Town, along with a group of girls who travelled all the way from Citrusdal to spend the day with us. Together, we gathered around this year’s theme: You Were Made to Be Known.
The Power of an Unnamed Woman
Throughout Scripture, we encounter women whose names are never recorded, yet their actions changed lives, inspired generations, and continue to teach us today. There was the woman who reached out in faith to touch Jesus’ cloak. The widow who gave all she had. The servant girl whose words led a military commander towards healing. The woman at the well whose encounter with Jesus transformed an entire community. Many of these women remain unnamed, yet they are far from forgotten.
At Bloom, we wanted every young woman in the room to understand that God sees them in the same way. In a world that often tells us our value comes from achievement, popularity, or recognition, Scripture tells a different story. God knows our names, sees our hearts, and invites us into His greater story.
Called, Rooted and Seen
To explore this theme, attendees had the opportunity to choose two of three breakout sessions:
- Called By Name
- Rooted to Rise
- Seen by God
Each session focused on women in the Bible whose names may never have appeared on the pages of Scripture, but whose courage and faith ensured their stories would be remembered for generations.
Our incredible speakers, Carine Oko Nnama, Pauline Majola, and Mishay Petersen, shared these stories with authenticity and wisdom. Through their teaching, young women were encouraged to see that God often works powerfully through ordinary people who simply choose to trust Him.
The response from attendees was inspiring. Conversations throughout the day reflected a growing awareness that every woman has influence, purpose, and a unique calling, regardless of her age, background, or circumstances.
Known in Community
The final session of the day, led beautifully by Nelia Harding, focused on Known in Community: You Were Made to Belong. One of the consistent themes throughout Scripture is that God never intended His daughters to walk alone. While individual faith is important, growth often happens in community where we encourage, challenge, and support one another.
To help bring this message to life, each attendee received a cardboard mirror to decorate. They were invited to write down a word that reflected what they wanted to focus on in this season of their lives. After the final talk, the room transformed into a beautiful picture of community. Young women moved around the venue exchanging mirrors and writing words of encouragement on one another’s cards.
These mirrors became more than a craft activity. They became reminders that our identity is shaped not by the labels the world gives us, but by the truth of how God sees us. They also reflected the power of women speaking life and encouragement into one another.
A Room Full of Purpose
One of the most encouraging parts of the day was welcoming both long-standing and new partner churches. It was wonderful to see familiar faces alongside young women attending Bloom for the very first time. From Message staff and our core team to our incredible volunteers, every person played a part in creating a space where young women could experience God’s love and discover more of who He created them to be.
Every Bloom event leaves us with the same sense of wonder. God loves His daughters deeply. He sees them, knows them, and delights in drawing near to them. Throughout the day, His presence was tangible as young women encountered His truth and found courage to embrace the calling He has placed on their lives.
The women of Scripture whose names were never recorded may not have realised the impact their faith would have. Yet centuries later, we are still learning from their stories. Our prayer is that every young woman who attended Bloom left knowing this: she does not need recognition to be significant. She simply needs to know the God who already knows her name.

We are already looking forward to our upcoming BLOOM Teens Event and all that God has in store for the next generation of young women. Please join us in praying for every girl who will attend. Pray that God would begin preparing their hearts now, drawing them closer to Him and helping them discover the incredible purpose He has for their lives. Because just like the extraordinary women of Scripture, they were never created simply to be seen. They were made to be known.
