When you work with young people, no two days are ever the same, but this one stood out. It reminded me exactly why I do what I do with The Message Trust and GodFirst Church.
The day began with our staff meeting from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., where we reflected on the previous week and planned ahead. As soon as the meeting ended, we headed out to our first school, where we were invited to speak at the morning assembly. It was powerful to see how well the students received the message and joined in prayer.
Next, we made our way to the second school for their valediction ceremony. It was such a heartwarming moment watching teachers celebrate their matrics and welcome the Grade 11s stepping into their final year. We were invited to share a short 5–10 minute encouragement, and the atmosphere was filled with hope, pride, and excitement for what’s next.
In the afternoon, we visited two more schools to present the idea of hosting the Higher Tour in Johannesburg. One school showed great interest and excitement, which encouraged us even more. Around 2:30 p.m., I received a call that the Woolies food donation was ready for collection. It took about two hours for the round trip, and by 4:30 p.m., we were back ready to distribute the food to families in our community who needed it most.
Before the day ended, I stopped by our Social Justice Hub, where we had a new tenant moving in. The space needed a bit of maintenance and painting, so I rolled up my sleeves and helped get it ready.
By the time I finally sat down that evening, I was tired but deeply grateful. Days like this remind me that ministry isn’t always about big stages or perfect plans it’s about showing up, serving people, and letting God move through every moment. Whether it’s speaking in schools, collecting food, or painting walls, it all matters when it’s done with purpose and love.
