Job Journey behind Bars – The Graduation

From 28 May to 30 July 2025, something extraordinary unfolded behind the walls of Drakenstein Prison. A group of 22 participants embarked on a transformative path through the Job Journey: Becoming Work Ready program. Over the course of two months, they didn’t just learn about employment readiness—they rediscovered purpose, and the power of second chances.

On graduation day, 17 participants proudly completed the program, each one carrying not just a certificate, but a renewed sense of identity and possibility.

The Job Journey program was more than a curriculum—it was a safe space. A place where participants could reflect, grow, and prepare for life beyond prison walls. Through practical training, daily devotions, and heartfelt conversations, the men began to see themselves not as statistics, but as individuals with value, potential, and a future.

Here’s what some of them had to say:
“Job Journey really opened my mind, and I gained a lot of valuable knowledge.”
“This course helped me to focus on the positive side of life.”
“While attending the course, I felt a sense of freedom—like I was in my own safe space.”
“I’ve learned that Job Journey goes hand-in-hand with daily devotions, and I will continue to apply them when I’m out looking for a job.”

These words are more than testimonials—they are evidence of transformation.

As a facilitator, this was my first time inside a prison. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but from the moment I stepped in, I felt calm and connected. The participants were fully engaged, showing a hunger to learn and a deep respect for the process. We prayed together, shared stories, and supported one another—especially those preparing to return home.

This experience impacted me deeply, both personally and spiritually. I witnessed firsthand how God’s presence can move in even the most broken places. It reminded me that hope is never lost, and that everyone—no matter their past—deserves love, encouragement, and the opportunity to start again.

As these 17 graduates step into the next chapter of their lives, they do so equipped not only with practical tools, but with a renewed spirit. They are ready to face the world with courage, faith, and the knowledge that they are not alone.

To everyone who supported this journey—The Message staff, volunteers, and partners across all streams—thank you. Your presence made a difference.
