Our team had the opportunity to serve with one of our favourite partners again, outside of Cape Town—Mouton Foundation. Citrusdal has a big place in our heart, so starting out for the year with them is always a big highlight for us.
Our team hosted a week-long holiday club called Treasure Hunters, focusing on the verse “Where your treasure is, your heart will also be” – Matthew 6:21. We had a total of 87 kids present from grade 1-7. Every day was filled with high energy from remembering the themed dance to delivering their Genetik Session items. This year it was so encouraging to see holiday club teens become facilitators. When asked why they wanted to join, they mentioned that they just can’t stay away.
Although the main focus of the week was the Holiday Club, our team also had the task of leading a ‘Kom Ons Praat’ (Come let’s talk) evening with the parents and a youth evening with the young people too old to come to the Holiday Club. There were almost 60 parents engaging in conversations and training for their community and a room full of young people enjoying music, games, the gospel and conversations focused around future plans and dreams.
I think a Jesus moment for us worth sharing was alongside the Mouton Foundation team Facilitators (the team that we work alongside each year). Every year our relationship with them deepens as it does with the kids. This year they were tasked with leading devotions in the morning. And it was so encouraging to see how their relationship continues to grow. They felt free with the team to share personal things and inspire each day a devotion centered on putting Jesus first for the young people we serve—we’ve honestly seen God do precious things every day during that short time. To see how they’ve moved from standing on the side in previous years, to leading the devotions with everyone was extremely inspiring.
A prayer request would truly be to continue praying for the community of Citrusdal. Every year we go, our hearts are moved by what God is doing but also saddened by what’s happening in the broader community. Pray that God makes Himself known unto the people, that they truly serve Him for themselves and desire a deep and real relationship with Him.
