Storm’s Story: A Journey to MSE

Hey friends, I’m Storm Benjamin, and I want to share a story that’s close to my heart—one that’s been unfolding over the past couple of years and is now taking me all the way from Cape Town to the UK.

This journey started with a dream. A mentor of mine, Grant Porthan, who’s deeply connected to The Message, first told me about the Message School of Evangelism—a 10-month program in the UK that equips young people to live out their faith boldly and practically. I was excited, ready to go… but life threw a curveball. Due to some documentation issues, I couldn’t leave in September 2024 as planned.

At the time, it felt like a setback. But looking back, I see it as part of God’s timing.

When 2025 rolled in, Grant introduced me to The Message Trust South Africa, and that’s where things started to shift. Since March, I’ve been volunteering with them, and it’s been incredible. I’ve served coffee as a barista with Gangstar Café, used my graphic design skills in the Operations stream, and been part of Respect Me programs that speak life and truth into young people’s lives.

Each moment has felt like preparation—like God was shaping me for what’s next.

And now, the door to the UK is open again.

This opportunity means more than just travel. It’s about growing in my relationship with Jesus, learning from people who are living out their faith in powerful ways, and bringing that wisdom back home. I want to build new connections, stretch myself, and come back ready to serve my community with fresh vision and tools.

I’ve felt so supported by my family, friends, and church community throughout this journey. Their prayers, encouragement, and belief in me have been a constant reminder of God’s grace.

Thank you for reading my story. I’m excited, a little nervous, but mostly just grateful. Let’s see what God does next.

With love,
Storm
