Recently, the Parkwood Hub was transformed into a space of celebration and creativity as it hosted the Genetik Sessions Showcase—an event where young people shared what they’ve been learning through dance. Co-hosted by our Parkwood Community Hub and Genetik Sessions teams, the event was a beautiful culmination of dedication, growth, and community.
With around 40 attendees, including proud parents, peers and friends, and our Sessions performers, the showcase offered more than just entertainment. It was a moment for families to witness the transformation happening in their children’s lives.
One moment that truly stood out was a quiet conversation between a young performer and an adult guest. The guest was deeply moved to learn that the confident, young person she was speaking with had been non-verbal just a year ago. Through her consistent involvement in Genetik Sessions and the nurturing environment of the Parkwood Community Hub, she literally found her voice. It was a powerful reminder of how creativity can unlock growth in ways that words alone cannot.
Beyond the performances, there was a sense of something deeper at work. Parents and friends had the opportunity to see firsthand how God is moving in the lives of these young people. Through dance and the arts, they are not only developing skills but also discovering identity, purpose, and hope. It was a moment of reflection and gratitude, especially in a community where opportunities for growth can be limited.
